effects used

effects:
firstly we placed down our two clips of the white light and green light in the black room- these we are foundation for the music video. we then lip synced both footages with the music. we then chopped the beginning of each footage before the singing. we did this to match the up beats in the music, we did this effect so the video was varied and interesting and to get a varied amount of shot.

we then layered an image of the white room over the top of her first singing part this was because the lip syncing in this particular seen was better. although looking over this with the beginning we decided it didnt match the other footage so we messed around with contrast and brightness. this was to make the clip darker and more eerier to fit. we then played around with colour correction to get a colour which looked more like the colour lights we used in our previous shots. we then got a black matte and layered it underneath the footage. we then marked out points around her to highlight her so we could play around with transparency of the background to make it all but disappear so the black matte would show through - this made it look more like the black room. we could not disappear all of the background because parts of her would then disappear as she moved. this gave the effect of a white and blue colour shadow around her.

with the colour lights in the black room we zoomed in on some of the shots and moved the to the sides this was to make the shots more interesting as she was not always in the middle.

we the brought in the footage of the fan running into her room and ripping up a poster of the star. with this footage we believed again it was too boring so we played with contrast and brightness to make it darker and sharper. we also chopped this footage up to make it more jumpy so more effective. with this footage we also coped at pasted the footage above but moved it slightly out of place in parts, with this top layer we then lowered the transparency, this gave a ghost effect, this made the shot alot more interesting.

next different shot - paparazzi. for this shot we placed a white matte over the top of the footage, we then used the pen tool to mark several places on the transparency line of the footage, we then dragged down the points alternately, to give a zig zag effect. this made it look like cameras we flashing and following the star.

next fan - for this shot again with the last fan bit we played around with the brightness and contrast to give a sharper and darker effect. and chopped up effect and ghost effect. we reversed this shot so it looked like the screwed up posters and headlines looked like they were coming towards her, this gave an interesting point of view, we the froze the image on the headlines and re played the same footage but this time not in reverse so the fan was pushing the headlines away.

paparazzi shot again - in the shop , flashes white matte, zig zag effect.

fans running up to star - ghost effect ( over layered image over top so two, moved slightly out of place in some parts and lowered transparency.) chopped up shots and moved the round so in wrong order and copied some so appeared twice.

news reader - we over layered moving text with blue back ground, and typed in the words we wanted with font and size. we then made the text smaller so it appeared at the bottom of the screen like professional news/breaking news. we then over layered the shot with a fuzzy matte this looked like when a TV has no aerial. we then lowered transparency so it only made shot slightly fuzzy, this made it look like a real t.v and a real news programme.

next walking down street paranoid - for this shot we tried many different effects to make it more interesting from speeding it up to chopping it up but none of these worked so we decided to slow the shot down by reducing its spped to 50% instead of 100%.

next shot green spot light - layered image twice but put top one slightly out of placed so ghost effect we then zig zaged them both so they were in and out this fit with the fact that she was getting crazier.

next shot - close up.. for this shot we decided to make it look more disorientating by putting a fish eye effect on it this made the clip rounded and like a sphere.

green light - zoomed in out out very slightly so no two fast but so nice effect.

Feedback from Final

Positive - Lip syncing clear, color correction good, white room with affect good, Variety of shots, flowed well, breaking news was good, Good effects on the green light.


Negative - Serious music video but people were laughing, weird scenes that make people feel uncomfortable so they laugh, certain bits too far didn't fit such as jittery hands and leaves.

Editing So far ...

The group as a whole has all contributed in the editing and put forward their ideas. We have had a few disagreements in what affects t use when and where however we have solved these.. Another problem we have encountered is that we have not yet filmed the bill board and can not get on with that although this is not a major problem this can easily be overcome.

We have decided not to use the white room footage as the black room footage worked a lot better and looked a lot more affective.

today we filmed in the black room. in the room we used a blue filter on a spotlight so that we could light up our star. we created test footage and then carried on to film our song. we positioned the light in different angles to capture different sides. we also filmed without the blue filter to see the brightness of the spotlight.

tomorrow we are going to film mel in the centre of cambridge trying to go about her normal business but as she is a celebrity, paperazzi make it very difficult.

Ideas from feedback

From our feedback from the class we have realised that we need to make some changes to our location shots in order to make the storyline a little bit clearer this will also add more interest into the music video as at the moment there is a lot of mel in the white room lip syncing to the camera.

Therefore we have decided to film in the dark room like we did the white room but his time have some lights maybe different colours to add some interest and vary the shots a bit more. We are also going to film some more to add in but we are going to film around Cambridge as a lot of our filming is inside and we would like to vary our filming. This is when we will be filming the news reader again as it was very windy the say we tried to film it. We will also be filming the billboard with the second fan in front as we have lost the shots of Rosie ripping up the tickets. So we are now going to film her bit in front of the billboard realising that the tour has been canceled. We are also going to add to the footage and Film Mel around Cambridge but in more discreet locations other than grand arcade and obvious places like that therefore we will be filming down the little cobble streets with boutique shops on them. We will also include Mel trying on expensive clothing and been watched and followed by paparazzi. This will then add interest to the video.

The filming of the dark room will be done in Thursday's media lesson and the filming around Cambridge will be done in Friday's lesson.

Order of editing

Order of editing to help writing coursework;
1)

Firstly we uploaded our footage onto Final cut.
2)

Then we lip sinked the music this involves putting the music to my actions and lip movements.We did this by finding the same point in one of our clips, and then you line the song and the clip up so they are together and it should hopefully lip sink to the music.

3) Then we will cut the footage, this involves getting rid of the areas we don't want and deleting them whilst putting the bits we do want in order on the timeline.

Filming

Firstly we decided to film the white room as we were at college and allowed to use the camera. Filming went really well in the white room, as the light was clear and it was easy to see facial expressions and movement on the camera. The only problem we had was that the cut on arm from drug abuse didn't show up well on the camera. So we had to redo it much darker, although it still didn't have the impact on which we wanted. We had to use a white sheet as the carpet was a dark colour and ruined the effect of all white. This was easy to do so there were no problems. WE tried many different camera angles and levels and played them back to see which place was the best.

The next day we all went to Mel's house to film the fan section and Mel getting out of the car. Firstly we filmed Naomi running into the room and ripping up the poster. WE had to shoot this a couple of times as the camera angle didn't work as it blocked the view of Naomi's face and what she was doing. Lighting was bright so it made it seem much more realistic.We only printed a few posters so we had to be careful not to end up without enough posters to get it right so we had a few test runs without ripping up the poster.

The next bit we filmed was Mel getting out of the car, this was hard to do as we were unable to move the car and so when we tried to pretend Mel was driving everything in the background was at a stand still. As it was a dark and cold day lighting wasn't very good but it was just about bright enough to come across clear. We also tried out using cameras from outside of the car. This wasn't very successful as there was only three people so it didn't look very realistic and there was no flashes but we will edit it all and see if it will work if not we just wont included it in our sequence.

We also filmed Laurens bit outside as she was a news reader, this we will have to redo as it was far to windy and her hair was flying everywhere and so was all our time sheets. we will have to try and fit it in soon before the weather gets really bad.

Finally we filmed Rosie as another fan. We struggled with this as we didn't just want her to have the tickets in her hand and for it to look predictable. So we tried her getting up getting the tickets and sitting back down. Once again we struggled with camera angles as it was so hard to get her in walking and then she would be sitting in the opposite direction. We filmed it a few times and tried to get the best angles.

Overall the whole rough cut filming went well, we tried our best and hopefully once we have edited it all it will be as good as our Thriller. If not we will just refilm the areas in which were not happy with in order to produce something bigger and better than before!

Shooting Schedule

When: Next Lesson we are going to start filming all the white room scenes, due to it being in college and most convenient. All the rest of the shots in Mel house will be done on Friday 3rd as the group all finish early! This will enable us to get all the footage out of the way for mels house.

Where: We will be filming at Mel's house for the fans and the newsreader. We will also use her house/car for the paparazzi scene of where she will be stepping out of the car. We will also be trying the tunnel scene in mels underground building.

Poster

This is the poster we will be using in our video. For when the fan will rip it off the wall in anger! We did this in photoshop again and simply added a name on the side to make it look more realistic.

This is our final image of the billboard, we are using this after her hate is portrayed in the press, this image is to help viewers understand that she is no longer wanted in the public eye and has ruined her career. This will help us as we can then follow up by the insane side of her!

This is our final background for the billboard as it looks a lot more effective by just cutting the photo down and adding a simple subtle affect. Again we did this by using photoshop.

Billboard Background Practise

This was a test photo of Mel that we wanted to use for the photo on the background of the billboard. The original photo had a details background in which we wanted to cut out therefore we put onto photoshop and edited it. This caused problems due to the small details that we needed to go around. This made the final one look unrealistic and like mel was just stuck there. We also changed the background colour making it have a gradient to make it more intersting. However this is not the one we are going to be using and are going to try again with a different photo as it may be easier and look more effective.

All of these album covers are inspiration for our billboard background promoting the world tour. These are some of the locations etc that we could use on our billboard!

Images of Location Shots and Props

This is how we intend to represent the white room within our music video. WE will also have a white costume, in order to really exaggerate her face and the expressions and worries on it. The white room is being used to show the mental state of mind, as most people associate white rooms with insane illnesses.
This image is to highlight the use of a fans room, the fans room will have plenty of poster covering the wall. This will help to highlight the characters obsession with the star and to show that she is world wide and well known.
This image is how we intend to make our billboard look. We have already tried out test footage and edited pictures and we hope to recreate one similar to this.
This image is how we intend to show the news, as the star does something wrong. The newsreader will be talking but you wont be able to hear what shes says so headlines will be going across the bottom of the screen.
This is to how the newspaper cutting, when the star does something wrong there will be lots of newspapers scattered around and all these headlines will jump out to the audience in bold writting.
This image is how we intend to represent the sold out tour, in big bold writting.

Test Footage for Billboard

This is our test footage for our billboard. We took some test footage of random boards around college and uploaded it. we then added a photo of mel on top and cropped it to fit the board. we also added text. This has worked really well however we will need to make it more realistic when we do the real one.

Story Board

From doing our story board and animatic we as a group believe that our sequence fits in very well with the song and works well as a whole however we have realised that when the girl is in the room we are needed to vary the shots to in order to keep the audience interested as otherwise the shot may get very borning. We also need to ensure that the girl is making the shot interesting with her movement and signing. making sure all eyes are on her.
Overall the animatic has showed us clearly the timings we have in order to shoot each shot and how long it will be. This was a successful task.

paparazzzi

this advert backs up our idea of the paparazzi photographing our main character. it also helps with the idea of bulk as we can shoot different people to bulk up and give an apperance of lots of photographers when possibly there isnt.

We pitched three ideas, firstly the one on the multiple personality disorder, then we picthed an idea about a Celebrity. In this pitch we explain the story of how she was a famous singer, loved the the public. Until one day it all goes wrong when the genral public turn against her and she is hated. This ruins her life and she falls apart. Our third pitch was based around a girl losing someone close to her. Through this story she wouldnt be able to cope with the loss and starts to go crazy.

Nicolas gave us good feedback an dhelped us to determine in our peice that we will incorporate all three or possible just two of the pitches. Nicolas was not to keen on the idea of a dead person within the video. Therefore at this moment in time we are planning to work on a story based around a famous singer who has everything until it all goes wrong and then you see the insane side of her come out! This way all ideas have been used and make a realistic and interesting story. Its realistic due to the likes of Amy Winehouse and Britany Spears!

This is an image that we got from the Bridget Jones Video as this is the sort of thing we want in the happy scene where the girls are having a night in.

This was another idea for our video, as we liked the idea of drowning in the bath and the blood on the hand. This could be used in our video for the sane/insane person.

Disturbia By Rhianna and Fighter by Christina Aguilaria

Both of these videos have gave us inspiration/ ideas for our own video. Both of them have a sense of anger in them in which we thought worked well and wanted to use within our own video. However after re listening to our song we realised that the Rhianna song 'Disturbia' we thought it was a bit too much for our video, as the song isnt as up beat as disturbia. Although the Christina Aguiliara song fitted very well not to heavy.

from looking at last years music videos, this video stood out to us as we like the effect of the split screen, its makes it look very professional and different. we may not use this idea but we like the idea.

Split screen of a multiple personality disorder. The girl will be displayed as sane (happy), sketchy sane/insane, and then totally insane.

Story of sane person: All loved up, constantly happy, Girly night in showing her outgoing side all in there pj's, slightly in the style of Bridget Jones. Phone rings (Boyfriend) all girls joke and get excited about it.

Story of Sketchy person: Starts to constantly ring boyfriend, check his phone and then follows his every move to check up on him. Boyfriend catches her stalking him and gets angry then she chucks things everywhere and breaks down crying against the wall. Then he finish's with her...

Insane: inspiration from Disturbia by Rhianna, Set in a dark place, full of knifes, razors, a mirror and torches. She will be banging against the wall and confused by what the camera is in the style of Christina Aguilaria in Fighter. Show some scars across her body showing a totally insane person.

From this list of songs we have chosen Texas - Tell me the answer as we believed it was the best set of lyrics, we thought we could do something really creative with this song. Texas was also the only one with an up beat, women performer where as the other women performers were quite depressing songs. Although we do have a backup song which is New Soul by Yael Naim this our second choice as it had just a women performer and also had an ok beat in the background but we were not so keen on the lyrics as they didnt really make sense and had no structure.

The reason we needed to have just a women singing was because as you can see the group is all girls and we thought it would be complicated if we had to rely on a boy that we had never worked with before.

Mel, Lauren, Rosie and Naomi!

We have worked together last year for both our Kids TV and Thriller and therefore we share the different skills to do with shooting and editing a short film/music video however some of us have a specific skills in certain areas.

Rosie and Lauren work well as a team when it comes to shooting the footage but also enjoy editing and therefore share the tasks.

Naomi also likes to edit and shot and again helps out with both, but she also likes to be in front of the camera showing off her talent of performing.

Mel likes to be creative with the music along with Rosie and again helps out with the editing, she also likes to perform in front of the camera being the main performer in the footage.

As a group we take part in everything especially when it comes to ideas for the video.
